Who are OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour courses for?
OSHA describes the 10-hour Outreach course as basic hazard awareness for workers. The 30-hour course provides more detail for supervisors and workers with safety responsibilities. Construction and General Industry are separate program areas.
Does Outreach training meet every safety requirement?
No. Outreach training does not replace the job-specific training required by OSHA standards. The federal Outreach program is voluntary, although an employer or another jurisdiction may require it. Confirm what your employer, project or local authority accepts.
How can you check a provider?
For an Outreach class, ask to see the trainer’s current authorization. For online training, check OSHA’s list of accepted providers. Do not assume that a general safety course includes an official Outreach card.
Questions to ask before enrolling
- What topics and industry does the course cover?
- Who delivers the training and issues the completion document?
- Is an official Outreach card included, or an academy course certificate?
- What are the attendance, assessment, delivery and fee requirements?
- Will your employer or local authority accept the course?
For learners outside the United States
Check the rules that apply to your own workplace. A course description should not promise automatic regulatory acceptance in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE or another country.
